p.3 Thomas went to Peckham Feb 16th1843 and was bound to Mr Stone Grocer
on the March 5th 1843 (aged 14yrs)
p.13 Thomas went on approval to Mr thorpe at Paddington 18th Oct
1844..did not suit. Thomas went to Mr Fieldhouse at Islington, jan'y 14th
1845, to commence at £5:0:0 pr yr.
p.25 Poor Thomas went to Market Harborough Feb'y 20/1846
p.36 Jan 15th 1850 Tom went to Leicester
p.44 July 7 1851 My Dear Tom left Leicester and on the 22nd sailed for
America by the ship York Town. Oh may he be kept by the mighty power of
God who has in his infinite mercy called him out of darkness into his
marvelous light. (aged 22yrs)
p.45 July 28 rec'd a letter from Portsmouth from dear Tom. Sept'r 21
Rec'd a letter from N.YK. only to find dear Tom has rec'd George's first
letter and has gone up country to his brother. Arrived at N.Y. 3rd Sept,
6 weeks passage.
p,46 Aug't 11th Just rec'd a letter from George directed to poor Tom, too
late for him to profit by his advice, through many dangers poor George
has been preserved but I fear insensible of the kind hand which has
protected him.
p.53 Ap'l 1852 1 Rec'd a letter from Thomas stating the intention of dear
George to start for California on or about the 24th March. since changed
his mind and is now at Rochester N.Y.
p.56 July 31st 1852 Rec'd letters by the same post from George and Thomas
one from Rochester and the other from Dubuque through mercy both well
He worked as a Dry Goods Merchant as a member of the firm of Ackley,
Skemp and Addinsell.

Retired at 61
Tom returned to England for a visit in 1890 after retirement.
He was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church

Sophie Anderson, 18, a domestic servant from Norway, lived with them.

Thomas died leaving no will his personal property was valued at $8500
and total for distribution was $11279.59. His Son Charles was made
administrator and paid mother $8759 (1/3 share)

Dubuque is on the Mississippi and has a population of 62,000.(1997)
